① Set objectives and determine the areas to benchmark.
② Establish key performance measures or performance drivers which will be measured during the benchmarking exercise.
③ Select organizations' to compare performance against.
④ Measure your own and others' performance, using the measures identified in Step 2 above.
⑤ Compare performances, and identify gaps between the performance of your own organization and those of the comparator organizations.
⑥ Design and implement an improvement programme.
⑦ Monitor improvements.
